Following the award ceremony, at 18:30h the Ria de Pontevedra was witness to a simulation of a maritime rescue with the Galician Coastguard Service helicopter HS Pesca I.

On Monday 23rd August at 16:00h, the Association for Recreational Sailing (ANAVRE) and Maritime Rescue Service awarded the Real Club Náutico de Sanxenxo two commemorative plaques in recognition of their work in the teaching and dissemination of the sport of sailing, and for their collaboration with the Maritime Rescue Services. The ceremony was attended by the Head of the Finisterre Rescue and Maritime Traffic Centre, Manuel Capeáns Álvarez, President of the ANAVRE, Jaime Darder, and Pedro Campos, President of the RCNS.

“We are delighted and grateful for the recognition of our work in collaborating with he safety of sailing vessels on our waters,” Pedro Campos explained; emphasising the importance of enjoying the sport of sailing as safely as possible, “we are a club of recreational and competitive sailors who aim to enjoy the fantastic conditions that our Galician Rías and coasts offer us, whilst remaining vigilant to ensure the safety of everyone at all levels within our sport.”

“Among many other activities, we have participated in nine round the world yacht races, where we have learnt the importance of safety under extreme conditions, but as Manuel Capeáns reminded us yesterday, we cannot forget that a kayak or paddle board, can be just as much at risk as a yacht racing around Cape Horn. We should, therefore, continue to enjoy our rías without ever overlooking the fundamental role of safety within the practice of the sport of sailing.”

Following the award ceremony, the Head of the Finisterre Rescue and Maritime Traffic Centre gave a presentation at the RCNS that was followed by a rescue simulation held at18:30h over the Ria de Pontevedra with the Galician Coastguard Service, HS Pesca 1, that was jointly organised by the ANAVRE, Maritime Rescue and with the collaboration of Nauta Sanxenxo and Eolo Sanxenxo.
